Our mission

Mother holding baby's handPennsylvania Families for Safe Birth is a consumer-driven coalition of families and professionals to promote legislation and policies grounded in the Midwives Model of Care and to support families' access to safe, appropriate, evidence-based care during pregnancy, labor, birth and the postpartum period.

Specifically, our purposes are to:

  • Support legislation that licenses Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) in Pennsylvania
  • Raise awareness and support for families choosing an out-of-hospital birth as a safe, appropriate option
  • Support safe family and baby initiatives in all birth settings

Charter Meeting Report

The Harrisburg Friends' Meeting House teemed with mothers, fathers, midwives and young children from across Pennsylvania's diverse landscape for the charter meeting of Pennsylvania Families for Safe Birth. New members of the organization approved the mission statement and elected eleven members to the Board of Directors. Read more
